Physical Education and Sport
Discovering strengths. Growing confidence. Celebrating success together.
At Bloxham, sport is a chance to discover what you enjoy, surprise yourself with what you can achieve and feel the pride of being part of a team. With a dedicated sports coach, our partnership with NOSP and exciting opportunities to participate and lead, we help children develop a love of being active.
Our fantastic grounds give children room to thrive. A large tarmac playground and generous field provide space for PE lessons, clubs, team games and the shared excitement of Sports Day.
In lessons, children develop balance, coordination, strength and control before applying their skills with increasing confidence. They learn to understand tactics, make decisions and work together, building on previous learning through practice, feedback and fresh challenges.
There are plenty of opportunities to find an activity that sparks an interest. Our sporting offer has included athletics, cross-country, cricket, tennis, basketball, golf, American football and yoga. A varied programme of clubs, run by school staff and external providers, enables children to try something new, develop a favourite activity and enjoy being active with friends.
We also offer experiences that bring something different to the school day. Scooter workshops and BMX opportunities introduce new skills and challenges, helping children discover that being active takes many forms. Through Bikeability cycle training, pupils develop practical skills for safer cycling, build confidence and learn to make responsible decisions when riding. Together, these experiences encourage independence and can spark an interest in children who are still finding their favourite way to move.
We want children to see a sporting world in which they belong. By promoting disability sport and opportunities for women and girls, we broaden pupils’ awareness of sporting achievement, challenge stereotypes and encourage them to explore what is possible. Children learn to value different strengths and recognise the importance of making sport accessible and welcoming.
Our partnership with NOSP opens up opportunities for festivals, fixtures and competitions with other schools. Representing Bloxham brings a special sense of belonging: children learn to encourage teammates, respect opponents and take pride in their effort and conduct.
We have some wonderful successes to celebrate, including county championship success in Quad Kids athletics and championship success in cross-country. We are also proud to hold the School Games Mark Silver award. These achievements reflect pupils’ determination, staff expertise and a school community that encourages children to aim high.
Personal achievements matter too. Joining a club for the first time, mastering a skill or finding the courage to enter a competition can be a significant moment. Our coach and staff provide support and challenge to help children progress from their individual starting points and recognise what they have achieved.
Every Key Stage 2 class has swimming lessons. This gives children opportunities throughout their junior years to build confidence in the water, develop their technique and learn about water safety—gaining essential skills they can carry into later life.
Children also have opportunities to lead. Our sports representatives encourage participation, take on responsibility and play a leading role at Sports Day. They develop communication, organisation and teamwork while experiencing the satisfaction of helping others succeed.
Trips and residentials extend physical challenge beyond the school grounds. Experiences such as climbing, canoeing and caving encourage children to persevere, follow safety guidance and support one another. They return with shared memories and a stronger sense of what they can do.
Through PE and sport, our Bloxham values come to life: ambition when tackling a challenge, care for a teammate, honesty in competition and trustworthiness when taking responsibility. Children learn to celebrate success, manage disappointment and keep going.
We want every child to leave Bloxham with growing confidence, a sense of belonging and an activity they enjoy—ready to pursue new opportunities at secondary school and build healthy habits for life.
