Our Values and Character Education

Living our values. Building character. Becoming our best.

At Bloxham CE Primary, we believe education is about more than academic success. It is about nurturing the whole child, helping every pupil develop the values, attitudes and character they need to flourish, build positive relationships and make a meaningful contribution to the world around them.

Our Christian Vision and Values

Our Christian vision, “Encourage one another and build each other up,” underpins all that we do. It inspires us to create a school community where everyone feels valued, included and supported to reach their full potential.

Our six iCATCH values — Inclusive, Caring, Ambitious, Trustworthy, Creative and Honest — are at the heart of our school life. They guide how we treat one another, approach challenges, make decisions and contribute to our community. Through these shared values, we encourage children to develop kindness, respect, compassion, courage and a strong sense of responsibility.

Our motto, “Be . Build . Become,” reflects our belief that every child should be valued for who they are, supported to grow in confidence and character, and encouraged to become the person they aspire to be.

What Is Character Education?

Character education helps children develop the personal qualities and social skills that enable them to lead happy, fulfilling and responsible lives. These include resilience, perseverance, honesty, empathy, self-discipline and respect for others.

By developing these qualities, children learn to navigate challenges, build healthy relationships, make thoughtful choices and understand the positive difference they can make in the lives of others.

Developing Character at Bloxham

Character education is woven into our curriculum, our relationships and the wider experiences we offer. We provide opportunities for children to put our values into practice, discover their strengths and develop confidence, independence and resilience.

  • Learning through our values: Our iCATCH values are explored through lessons, collective worship, reflection and everyday interactions, helping children understand how values translate into action.

  • Leadership and responsibility: Opportunities such as House Captains, School Council and Playground Leaders encourage pupils to take responsibility, represent others and contribute to school life.

  • Enrichment and teamwork: Music, drama, sport and other activities help children develop confidence, creativity, perseverance and the ability to work collaboratively.

  • Community and service: Visits to Godswell Care Home, charity fundraising and participation in local events help children develop empathy, compassion and an understanding of their place within the wider community.

  • Celebrating positive choices: Through assemblies, recognition and daily encouragement, we celebrate kindness, determination, honesty and the many ways children live out our values.

Preparing Children for the Future

We want our children to leave Bloxham with more than the knowledge and skills they need for the next stage of their education. We want them to be thoughtful, resilient and compassionate individuals who respect others, embrace opportunities, learn from challenges and use their strengths to make a positive difference.

By living our Christian vision and putting our iCATCH values into practice, we aim to nurture a community where every child feels they belong, has the confidence to grow and is empowered to become the very best version of themselves.
