Music
Finding their rhythm. Discovering their voice. Taking the stage.
At Bloxham, music gives children opportunities to express themselves, discover a talent and experience the excitement of creating something together. Whether singing with friends, learning an instrument or performing in a band, we want every child to feel that music is for them.
Our partnership with the County Music Service enriches school life, offering opportunities to learn an instrument and be part of a choir. Children develop their interests, build confidence and enjoy the satisfaction of practising something until they can hear their own progress.
For budding performers, iRock offers the opportunity to be in a band. A very popular choice, these sessions help children develop musical skills while learning to listen, cooperate and play together. Termly performances give them something exciting to work towards—and a wonderful opportunity to share their achievements with proud families.
Our partnership with Cotswolds Arts Through Schools opens up further opportunities to rehearse and perform beyond school. These include the opportunity to work with Caius Lee, Director of Music at Worcester College, Oxford. Working with experienced musicians broadens children’s horizons and helps them imagine where their own musical interests could lead.
In lessons, children listen, sing, play and create. They explore rhythm, melody and musical patterns, developing the vocabulary to describe what they hear. As their knowledge grows, they draw on previous learning to compose ideas, make musical choices and perform with increasing control and expression.
Making music together develops much more than musical skill. Children learn to listen closely, persevere when something is challenging and understand how their contribution fits into a group. In a choir or band, they experience the pride of working towards a shared performance and encouraging one another along the way.
Music brings our community together through singing worship, celebrations and performances. Our daily morning playground music adds another joyful note to school life, welcoming children and families and helping the day begin with energy and connection.
We want children to leave Bloxham with an appreciation of different kinds of music, the confidence to participate and interests they can continue to explore at secondary school and beyond. For some, that may be the beginning of a lifelong love of singing or playing an instrument. For every child, it is an opportunity to listen, create and belong.
Current families can find details of instrumental tuition, choir, iRock and performance opportunities through our Parent Portal.
