RE

What matters to people? How do beliefs shape the way they live? What can we learn by listening to one another?

At Bloxham, RE gives children space to ask big questions and learn about the beliefs and traditions that matter to people around the world. As a Church of England school, our Christian vision shapes the welcome we offer every family. Children of all faiths and none are encouraged to think carefully, share their ideas and listen with respect when someone sees the world differently.

Questions worth exploring

Children learn about Christianity and other religions, including Judaism, Islam, Sikhism and Hinduism. They encounter stories, celebrations and ways of life, building the knowledge they need to understand what people believe and how those beliefs may influence their choices.

We encourage children to move beyond remembering facts. They ask questions, consider what they have learned and explain their own thinking. A child might explore the Palm Sunday story, for example, and reflect on why it matters to Christians.

Part of our community

Our connection with St Mary’s Church, Bloxham brings some of this learning close to home. Children and families come together there for occasions including our Easter service, and pupils’ artwork has been shared at Harvest. These experiences help children see how traditions are lived and celebrated in the community around them.

RE lessons follow the Oxfordshire locally agreed syllabus, supported by the Oxfordshire Diocesan Board of Education scheme of work. Learning builds as children move through school, helping them speak with increasing knowledge and respect about religion and belief.

Come and talk with our children. Ask them a question they have explored in RE or something they have learned about another person’s beliefs. You will hear thoughtful answers and, quite possibly, another good question.

Current families can find curriculum overviews and knowledge organisers on our Parent Portal.

Right to withdraw: Parents and carers may withdraw their child from all or part of RE. Please contact the school in writing if you wish to discuss or request this.
