Bloxham Primary Celebrates the Joy of Reading on World Book Day

Pupils and staff at Bloxham CE Primary School came together to celebrate the magic of stories as they marked World Book Day on Thursday this week with a day full of imagination, creativity and a shared love of reading.

Children were invited to dress up as their favourite book character, or anything book related, transforming the corridors and classrooms into a colourful celebration of stories. Among the creative costumes were Puss in Boots, Commander Cupcake, several Stick Man costumes, Dog Man, a range of superheroes, Mary Poppins, and Willy Wonka. There were also characters from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, alongside plenty from Harry Potter, including a memorable father-and-son appearance as Lucius and Draco Malfoy.

Teachers also joined in the dressing-up fun, with staff arriving as Alice, Cruella de Vil, a Minion and Where's Wally amongst others. Mr Singleton took a more relaxed approach, arriving in his dressing gown and slippers! Mrs Marshall, the headteacher joined in, arriving as the terrifying Demon Dentist, complete with drill and forceps, delighting in terrifying the children as she made her way around the school.

Throughout the day, children took part in a range of reading-themed activities designed to celebrate books and inspire a lifelong love of reading. The school has also invited pupils to take part in a fun challenge by bringing in or emailing photographs of themselves reading in the most unusual, creative or exciting place they can find – more photos to follow...

In addition, children have been encouraged to enter the Design a National Book Token competition, with details shared with families.

Reflecting on the day, it was wonderful to see the children so excited about books and reading, and to watch their creativity and imagination come alive through their costumes and activities.
