At Bloxham much of our teaching is based around a thematic curriculum which is designed to inspire our pupils. We use a number of commercial schemes, including the Cornerstones Curriculum 22, PowerMaths, Jigsaw and Get Set for PE to support our coverage of the National Curriculum and the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework. For more details on specific subjects, please click on the relevant tab or for details on our 23/24 assessment overview please follow the link at the bottom of this page.
We are currently working on personalising our curriculum to develop relevance for our pupils by including specific links to our locality. For example, in Year 4 we study the Saxons but, did you know the name Bloxham is derived from the 6th century, when - Blocc's Ham - the home of the Blocc, was a Saxon settlement, on the site of our village today.
Cornerstones was introduced in January 2023 to support the teaching of History, Geography, Science, Computing, Art and DT.
Cornerstones Topic Plan
Based on an overarching and carefully structured topic approach, our curriculum is mapped coherently and deliberately to build knowledge and skills year-on-year whilst making links between subjects and themes and reinforcing key concepts and vocabulary and ensuring full coverage of the National Curriculum and the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework. Entwined with this, we provide a series of supplementary experiences, our Bloxham Cultural Passport, which enhances learning and support the cultural capital we believe will strengthen our pupils.
For further details on individual subjects or our Bloxham Cultural Passport, please see the relevant pages.
